The Chinese community in Western Australia has raised over Eighty Thousand Dollars ($80,000) in support of the Australian Olympic Team competing in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. More than thirty thousand dollars ($30,000) was raised last night during a fund raising event which was held at the Chung Wah Cultural Centre in Balcatta, attended by nearly 300 guests.
The Chairperson of the Fund Raising Committee, Mr Jimmy Yong thanked all the sponsors and the Chinese community organizations and media that have come together to work jointly on this event. “This is indeed a symbolic representation of the combined effort of the Chinese community making a worthwhile contribution to the wider Australian community”, He said.
