East Perth Cemetery Chinese Jacket Conservation
Request for assistance to conserve rare Chinese jacket from East Perth Pioneer Cemetery.
As a condition of development for the Old Perth Girls School site, Australian Development Capital Pty Ltd (ADC) were required to remove buried remains on the site. During this process archaeologists unearthed remains of a Chinese burial which included an extremely rare jacket – please see attachment. The National Trust of Western Australia has received permission from ADC to hold the jacket in its collection. The jacket desperately needs urgent conservation works to preserve its fragile fabric and so ensure it is available for future generations to view and revere. The National Trust seeks donations from members of the Chinese community who may wish to contribute to the preservation of this rare and remarkable piece of history.
