The WA Chinese Dragon Sculpture Workshop

The Perth Chinese New Year Fair 2024 is around the corner. Since its inception in 2012, the fair has traversed twelve years, marking the continuous prosperity of the Chinese community in WA. In 2024, the Year of the Dragon, Chung Wah Association would like to invite to all Chinese communities in Western Australia to participate in our Chinese Dragon Sculpture Workshop. This exciting event aims to bring together the rich cultural diversity of the Chinese community and showcase our unity through a collaborative public art project.

The WA Chinese Dragon Sculptureis a public art project designed collaboratively by local artist Ken Allen and Professor Sun Zeng Tian, fusing elements of Western and Chinese art sensibilities.  The 7-metre long golden dragon will be crafted from recycled plastic materials incorporating both Chinese tradition and Western elements. The dragon is named “WA Dragon”, aiming to showcase the inclusive, open, and friendly cultural image of the Chinese community.

We extend a warm invitation to the entire Chinese community to join hands and actively participate in the creation of this Chinese dragon sculpture. Your collective involvement will not only contribute to the vibrant cultural landscape but also symbolise the unity and shared creativity of our diverse community.

2. What to expect in the workshops

• During this two-hour workshop, Artist Ken Allen and the facilitator will provide all the materials needed. Participants simply need to follow the instructions for cutting the dragon scales, and together we will bring this dragon sculpture to life.

3. Unveiling Ceremony Dates and Locations:

• Date:Saturday, 10 February 2024
  Time :11am to 12pm
  Venue: Northbridge Piazza

4. Project Display:

• The Chinese Dragon Sculpture will be showcased during the Chinese New Year period for two weeks, starting from 10 February 2024 to 24 February 2024  at Northbridge Piazza.

5. Media Coverage:

• SBS will fly in from Sydney to cover the Sculpture Unveiling Ceremony, providing nationwide exposure for the event.

7. Acknowledgment:

• The names of all participating associations in creating the Dragon Sculpture will be listed in recognition of their contributions.
• This project is a symbol of unity, collaboration, and celebration of the Chinese community in Western Australia, especially during the auspicious Year of the Dragon.

“ 龙腾西澳“雕塑工作坊

岁序更替，新元肇启，2024的钟声已在耳畔，又一度的珀斯中华新年文化节即将到来。自2012年首次举办以来，中华新年文化节已经走过了十二载春秋，一纪斗转，记录了西澳华人社区的不断繁荣。2024甲辰龙年，我们诚邀诸位参与历年来规模最大的中华新年庆典，并共同创造与见证龙年纪念塑像的诞生.
中华会馆诚挚邀请西澳大利亚所有华人社区参与我们的“龙腾西澳“雕塑工作坊。这一激动人心的活动旨在汇聚华人社区丰富的文化多样性，并通过一项合作的公共艺术项目展示我们的团结。
“龙腾西澳“雕塑是由本地艺术家肯·艾伦Ken Allen 和孙曾田教授共同设计的一项公共艺术项目，在中国龙的原型上融入西方元素，展现西澳华人社区包容开放、热情友好的文化形象以及“龙腾西澳”的美好寓意。这个独特的艺术项目将利用回收的塑料材料打造一条引人注目的7米长巨龙。

我们诚邀各华人社团的代表们亲临现场，与两位艺术家及工坊志愿者一起，携手完成塑像“龙鳞”部分的剪裁与制作，希望大家能积极参与创造这个令人瞩目属于我们西澳的“龙腾西澳”雕塑。你们的共同参与不仅将丰富我们的文化景观，也象征着我们多元社区的团结和共享创造力。让我们齐心协力，为这件宏伟的艺术品注入生机！

2.工作坊预期内容

• 在这两个小时的工作坊中，艺术家肯·艾伦Ken Allen 和指导者将提供所有所需的材料。参与者只需按照切割龙鳞的指导进行操作，我们将共同打造这座龙雕塑，为其赋予生命。

3.龙腾西澳雕塑揭幕典礼：
